Democratic Women’s Caucus Leadership Condemns the Murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, and Calls for an End to Systematic Racism in the United States
Washington, D.C. – Today, Co-Chairs of the Democratic Women’s Caucus Representatives Lois Frankel (FL-21), Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14), Jackie Speier (CA-14), and Vice Chairs Representatives Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Deb Haaland (NM-1) released the following statement in response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, and calls for an end to systematic racism in the United States.
“As the leaders of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, we stand in solidarity with the peaceful protesters mourning the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless victims of racism and abuse of power. We reject the heinous acts of discrimination and demand change to reverse the scourge of police brutality and the systematic racism that has long plagued this nation. As Congressional leaders, we will strive to provide the moral leadership to erase the deeply rooted institutional racism and oppression prevalent in our society while lifting up the voices of Black women and families. As we work to achieve gender equality, we are guided by the words of Shirley Chisholm, ‘In the end anti-black, anti-female, and all forms of discrimination are equivalent to the same thing: anti-humanism.’”
