Albuquerque, N.M. — Today, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (D-NM), a member of the House Democratic Women’s Caucus released the following statement after the Trump Administration finalized a rule that would weaken protections for student survivors and strip the responsibility of schools to protect students from sexual assault and harassment:

“Every student deserves to feel safe and be protected from sexual assault at school, but the Trump Administration’s final Title IX rule threatens access to education for survivors of sexual assault. The Trump administration is using this pandemic as a distraction from his destructive policies that put survivors of sexual abuse at risk, and it’s not going to fly. As a member of the House Oversight Committee we’ll be pressing Secretary DeVos to restore these important protections, so all students feel safe at school.”
