Haaland Demands Financial Security for Military Families from DoD
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- After the Department of Defense announced it will extend the duration of the STOP Movement order, which stops all travel for Department of Defense civilian employees, Servicemembers, and their families, Congresswoman Deb Haaland renewed her call to ensure undue financial burdens on military families be addressed.
“Military families should never have to sacrifice financial security for their health and well-being, but the STOP Movement Order had unintended consequences that forced military families to experience extreme financial burdens. As the daughter of two military veterans, I know that military families face incredible obstacles. As we move into a longer STOP movement order, the Department of Defense must provide uniform guidance and financial support for military personnel during this global coronavirus pandemic.
After learning of the financial struggles for military families due to the Stop Movement order, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) led a letter to the Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper to ensure military families receive immediate financial relief.
The letter was signed by U.S. Representatives James P. McGovern, Brian Fitzpatrick, Matt Gaetz, Jackie Speier, Cheri Bustos, Eleanor Holmes Norton, Denny Heck, Donald S. Beyer, Jr., Madeleine Dean, Tulsi Gabbard, Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr., Veronica Escobar, Jason Crow, Wm. Lacy Clay, Doug Lamborn, Elaine G. Luria, Terri A. Lynch, Vicki Hartzler, Lauren Underwood, Julia Brownley, Seth Moulton, Mike Levin, Jamie Raskin, Salud Carbajal, William R. Keating, Colin Allred, and Gregorio Kilili Camacho.
