Haaland Team Will Host Military Service Academy Information Night at Eldorado High School

Albuquerque, N.M. - On Tuesday, August 27Congresswoman Deb Haaland’s team will host an information night at Eldorado High School for students and recent graduates interested in applying to U.S. military service academies. Staff from Haaland’s office, the New Mexico congressional delegation and military service academies will be available to field questions from prospective applicants and parents.    

“I encourage any student who is thinking about service to our country to check out our service academy information night at El Dorado High School,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland. “As someone who comes from a military family, I understand how much dedication it takes to serve our country, and the military service academies provide the rigorous training, education, and preparation to serve in the highest ranks of our military.”

U.S. military service academies are among the most competitive colleges in the nation and provide those who enroll with an excellent education and opportunities for leadership in both military and civilian life. Four of the five service academies — the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy — require a congressional, vice presidential or service-connected nomination as part of the application process. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination.

The deadline to submit an application for a nomination through Congresswoman Deb Haaland’s office is Oct. 11, 2019. Applicants are encouraged to begin the application process well in advance. Applications are available at https://haaland.house.gov/services/military-academy-nominations
