Haaland: Trump Sabotaging CARES Act Oversight Won’t Stop Us From Holding Him Accountable
Albuquerque, N.M. – Congresswoman Deb Haaland, a member of the U.S. House Oversight Committee, issued the following statement after President Trump abruptly demoted the Acting Defense Department Inspector General Glenn Fine and removed him from his position as head of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee created in the CARES Act, less than a week after his appointment:
“Congress worked diligently to provide the relief for families, workers, and small businesses that was included in the CARES Act, but President Trump and his Administration have proven incompetent when it comes to getting these resources to the people. Oversight of the Trump Administration's implementation of the CARES Act will require close monitoring and oversight, but the sudden removal of Acting Inspector General Fine is part of a disturbing pattern of retaliation and corruption in this administration.
“Democrats transformed the CARES Act from corporations-focused to workers-first, requiring that the taxpayer dollars go to workers’ paychecks and benefits, not corporate CEO’s. Though President Trump is focused on sabotaging CARES Act oversight, it won’t stop us from holding him accountable.”
