Haaland: Trump Stealing from our Military Services Members, Again

Press Release
Trump Administration announced their intention to take $3.8 billion in Department of Defense funding for border wall

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced their intention to take $3.8 billion in Department of Defense funding from various priorities – including critical ships, vehicles, and aircraft – to instead fund the building of an ineffective wall along the southern border. This announcement comes after reports of heavy winds blowing the border wall over in parts of California, only reinforcing the waste of taxpayer dollars on President Trump’s political project.

The diversion of funds piles on top of the $125 million for New Mexico base’s construction projects that were directly impacted by the Trump Administration’s recent theft from the Department of Defense to build a wasteful border wall last year.

“Our military service members need the proper tools to protect our country, but this Administration is putting them at risk to pay for his wasteful border wall, again. As someone who grew up in a military family, it’s extremely concerning to think about the impacts this theft will have on critical projects, equipment, and overall military readiness. Military families deserve to know their loved ones will be a top priority while serving our country, not secondary to a destructive vanity project. Congress passed a military funding bill that puts our troops first -- this President doesn’t take his duty to our troops seriously and continues to betray them,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland.
