Haaland Votes for House Resolution Condemning Trump Action on Syria
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) released the following statement after voting to condemn President Trump’s action on Syria:
“Our allies in the Middle East and around the globe deserve to know that the United States will keep its word, but President Trump’s betrayal of our Kurdish partners has unleashed chaos in the region. Now, tens of thousands of people are fleeing fighting in Northeast Syria, sparking yet another humanitarian crisis. With his disastrous decision, Trump managed to damage relationships with all our allies and partners in the region while strengthening ISIS, Assad, Iran, and Russia. The resolution we passed in the House today condemns the President’s reckless disregard for human life and our national security.
“We cannot continue to fight endless wars. A responsible Syria strategy would guarantee the safety of our Kurdish partners, collaborate with our allies to improve security, increase the number of refugees we accept into our country, and provide humanitarian support to those this White House has displaced with this dangerous decision. President Trump’s approach to foreign policy is beyond irresponsible – it’s a threat to our national security and our values."
