WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01), a member of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, will join a delegation of Congressional members at the border on Saturday, February 9, 2019. House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) and Reps. Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Xochitl Torres Small (NM-02), and Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-05) will also join the visit to the New Mexico- and Texas-Mexico borders where they will meet with immigrant advocates, and receive a briefing on border security from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

“I’ll be on the border to gather information so we can make solid policy decisions to fix our broken immigration system, make smart border security investments, and avoid another tragedy from occurring again,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland.  \

During the trip, the Members will meet with local immigrant advocates and visit a migrant shelter in El Paso, TX. In the afternoon, Members will visit multiple points along the border, including a port of entry and the area where Felipe Alonzo-Gomez, a young migrant child who died in CBP custody, was apprehended.
