Meadow Lake Coffee with Your Congresswoman Town Hall Covers Health Care, Rural Public Safety, Immigration, Gun Violence, Constituent Services
Meadow Lake, N.M. – Today, Congresswoman Deb Haaland’s (N.M.-01) Coffee with Your Congresswoman town hall in Meadow Lake covered questions on health care, rural public safety, immigration, and constituent services. Constituents asked questions about protecting the Affordable Care Act, increasing funding for rural sheriff’s offices, immigration raids that separate children from their parents, and gun violence. Several constituents also raised issues that they are experiencing with their health care, and Haaland highlighted the services her district office has available to help navigate the red tape.
“I always want to be accessible to every community, and it was important for me to get out into this corner of our district,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland. “Meadow Lake has very specific challenges that many rural communities face. I’ll be using the feedback from this town hall to ensure communities like Meadow Lake get the resources they need to improve public safety, continue to have access services that help families living in poverty, and see a doctor when they are sick.”
At the Coffee with Your Congresswoman, Haaland also mentioned the assistance her office offers local organizations finding grant opportunities to fund programs that support local families.
Meadow Lake is a rural community in the southern part of New Mexico’s First Congressional District. The area is home to a rich agricultural tradition right next to the Manzano Mountains. The area has one of the lowest income levels in the state of New Mexico, and local school districts near Meadow Lake rely on Title I funding, which is a program aimed at supporting schools that serve students who live in families struggling financially.
